Orange Julep Restaurant Overview

7700 Decarie Blvd, Montreal, Quebec H4P 2H4

Located in Montreal, Orange Julep is a city landmark and one of its most recognizable fast-food destinations. The massive orange-shaped building is hard to miss and has has been serving locals and tourists for decades and continues to be a popular hangout spot, especially during the summer months. The restaurant operates entirely with outdoor seating, which adds to its casual, roadside charm.

It’s common to see groups of people gathered in the parking lot with their food, chatting, or admiring classic cars during the warmer season. The place has a strong sense of nostalgia, and even with newer food items appearing on the menu, it still retains its old-school feel. I still remember the days where they had servers who brought you your food on rollerskates.

Orange Julep has its own large parking lot, which is a big plus, especially given how busy it can get. The service is fast and efficient, with orders ready within minutes. Pretty much anytime I’m in Montreal, I’ll be sure to make a visit here to make sure to grab some orange juice.

Would return? Yes, especially for the orange juice and smash burger.

Order Again? Yes.

I ordered the double smash burger combo that included fries and an orange juice, so the above stats are for the entire combo itself.

Double Smash Burger

The double smash burger is one of the newer additions to the Orange Julep menu, and it’s a pleasant surprise. The burger captures that classic smash burger flavour — thin, griddled patties with crispy, caramelized edges and a juicy interior.

The beef patties were tender and flavourful, and the seasoning was spot on. You get that nice crispy surface from the smashing technique, which adds texture and savouriness to every bite. The bun was soft and fresh, though it struggled to contain the patties since the meat extended past the bun’s edges. It made eating a bit messy but didn’t take away from the enjoyment.

Overall, this was a really solid burger, especially for a drive-in-style spot. A bit pricey for what you get, but the quality of the meat makes it worth trying. Would probably only order the burger and the drink next time.

Fries

The fries came in a generous portion, but they were average at best. A few pieces were crispy and well-cooked, but the majority were soft and lacked that satisfying crunch.

They weren’t greasy or unpleasant, but they also didn’t add much to the meal. If anything, they felt like filler. Next time, I’d probably skip them and focus on the burger and orange juice instead.

Orange Juice

The orange juice is what Orange Julep is famous for — and for good reason. It’s sweet, creamy, and unlike any other orange juice you’ll find anywhere else. It has a unique texture that’s slightly frothy, almost milkshake-like, but still refreshing.

It’s hard to tell whether the appeal comes from nostalgia or simply because it tastes great, but either way, it’s the drink that keeps people coming back. It’s best enjoyed ice cold on a hot day, and it truly captures the essence of what makes Orange Julep special.

Final Thoughts

Orange Julep remains one of Montreal’s most iconic food landmarks, and even after all these years, it still delivers that unique combination of nostalgia, convenience, and simple comfort food.

The double smash burger was surprisingly good and worth trying, offering that crispy, juicy, old-school burger feel. The fries were forgettable, but the orange juice more than made up for it — it’s still one of the best drinks around, balancing sweetness, smoothness, and nostalgia perfectly.

While prices have crept up over the years, Orange Julep is still worth visiting at least once for the experience. On a sunny day, sitting outside with a burger and their signature orange juice feels like a timeless Montreal tradition.
