Le Foubrac Restaurant Overview

47 Bd Montclair, Gatineau, QC J8Y 2E8

Le Foubrac is a casual burger joint with a laid-back atmosphere. The space itself is unassuming, and unless you already know it’s there, you might not necessarily think to stop in. It’s the type of restaurant you go to when you’re already in the neighbourhood rather than somewhere you’d make a dedicated trip for.

Parking is fairly straightforward. While there’s no dedicated parking lot, there’s a good amount of free street parking nearby, which makes it more convenient than a lot of restaurants in busier Ottawa neighbourhoods. You may have to walk a block or two depending on when you arrive, but overall it wasn’t an issue.

One of the highlights of the restaurant is the rooftop patio. It’s a nice spot to enjoy a meal outdoors during the warmer months, and when we went, it wasn’t overly busy. The patio adds a touch of charm to an otherwise average setup, and the relaxed vibe makes it a good place to hang out casually with friends over burgers and drinks. Inside, the restaurant keeps things simple — nothing flashy, but serviceable for its purpose.

Service was friendly, and food came out within a reasonable timeframe. The menu focuses heavily on burgers, with some sides and twists that give it variety without overcomplicating things. That said, while the restaurant checks a lot of boxes — burgers, fries, patio seating — there isn’t much that really stands out. It’s a somewhat forgettable restaurant overall, the kind of place where you leave satisfied but not necessarily eager to rush back.

Would return?: Not likely. Just an average place.

The Rio Bravo burger at Le Foubrac brought a little more personality to the table. With jalapeños and spicy mayo, it added a welcome kick that gave it more character than the Tennessee. The spice wasn’t overwhelming but noticeable enough to elevate the overall profile. The bacon, mushrooms, onions, and cheese blended into a cohesive and flavourful bite. Out of the two burgers we tried, this one had the edge.

The fries, unfortunately, didn’t quite hit the mark. The seasoning was excellent — well-balanced with a bit of heat — but the texture was off. We asked for them extra crispy, and instead they came out soft, missing the crunch that makes fries so satisfying. It was disappointing because the flavour was there, but the execution didn’t deliver.

This one had a bit more personality, with jalapeños and spicy mayo giving it a welcome kick. The spice wasn’t overwhelming, just enough to elevate the overall profile. Everything else worked well—the bacon, mushrooms, onions, and cheese blended into a cohesive, flavourful bite. A well-executed spicy burger that I’d be happy to order again.

The seasoning on the fries were spot on—good spice and solid heat—but the execution was off. They weren’t crispy, which was especially disappointing since we had asked for them extra crispy. That lack of crunch took away from what could’ve been a great side.

Final Thoughts

Le Foubrac is the kind of restaurant that feels solid but unremarkable. The rooftop patio is a nice touch, the staff are friendly, and the menu is straightforward with some creative burger options. Parking is fairly easy with free street spots available, which adds to the convenience of dining here.

But in terms of food, it doesn’t do enough to stand out in a city with plenty of great burger spots. The Tennessee burger was decent, the Rio Bravo had some personality, and the fries tasted good but lacked crispiness. It all added up to a meal that was fine but ultimately forgettable.

If you’re in Gatineau and want a casual place to grab a burger on a patio, Le Foubrac works well enough. But if you’re looking for a destination-worthy burger experience, there are other restaurants in the Ottawa–Gatineau area that make a stronger impression.
