Gezellig is an upscale restaurant in Ottawa known for its refined atmosphere and polished menu. From the moment you walk in, it feels elevated. The dim lighting and quiet ambiance create a calm dining environment that’s well suited for date nights or more intimate dinners. It’s not loud or chaotic — conversations stay at your table.

Parking is street parking only, so depending on the time of day, you may need to circle a bit before finding a spot. That’s fairly typical for restaurants in this area, but it’s something to plan for.

Service throughout the evening was friendly and attentive. Staff were knowledgeable about the menu and pacing was steady without feeling rushed. Dishes came out at a reasonable pace, and the overall experience felt organized and professional.

Gezellig clearly positions itself as a more refined dining experience — and for the most part, the food reflects that. However, there were a few notable inconsistencies.

Located in Hintonburg, Chesterfield’s Gastro Diner has earned a strong reputation as one of Ottawa’s most popular brunch destinations — and after visiting, it’s easy to see why. The restaurant is known for its creative menu, friendly staff, and consistently high-quality dishes that show real care from the kitchen.

Pur and Simple has quickly become one of Ottawa’s go-to brunch chains, and with multiple locations across town, it’s built a strong reputation for its bright atmosphere and wide-ranging breakfast and brunch menu. The Barrhaven location, in particular, is always busy. On my most recent visit, there was about a one-hour wait just to get seated, and the entire dining experience ended up taking close to two hours.

Grounded Kitchen and Bar sits tucked away in a business complex, and at first glance feels like one of those underrated hidden gems. It’s easy to miss if you don’t already know where it is — the kind of restaurant you wouldn’t stumble upon just walking by. Once inside, the space feels well thought out. The interior is stylish, with a modern aesthetic and clean lines that make it a nice fit for brunch, lunch, or even a casual dinner.
