Burger de Ville Restaurant Overview

59 Westminster Ave N, Montreal West, Quebec H4X 1Y8

Located in Montreal, Burger de Ville is a very casual burger joint known for its fresh beef patties and build-your-own burger experience. You order at the counter, choose your toppings, sides, and how you want your burger cooked, and then they bring the food to your table. It’s a simple, no-frills setup, but it works well for the type of food they serve.

The staff are friendly, and the overall atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. There’s only street parking available, which can be a bit inconvenient depending on the time of day, but we managed to find spots without too much trouble.

We went as a large group of about 12 people, and even with that many orders, the food came out reasonably quickly, which was impressive. It wasn’t particularly busy when we were there, and it felt like a great place to sit down and enjoy a casual meal without any rush.

Would return? Yes, for the burger and casual vibe.

Poutine

The small poutine was surprisingly large — it easily served two people, and even then, we couldn’t finish it all. The regular size is massive, so unless you’re sharing with a group, the small is more than enough.

It had all the classic poutine elements: squeaky cheese curds, brown gravy, and a generous portion of fries. The fries were decent, not overly crispy but still satisfying, and the gravy was good, though not particularly memorable. It wasn’t the kind of poutine that stands out, but it checked all the boxes for a comforting side dish.

Overall, it was a solid, traditional poutine, but nothing about it was extraordinary.

Hamburger

Order Again? Yes.

This is what Burger de Ville is best known for, and it didn’t disappoint. The burger was thick, juicy, and full of flavour. The fact that they ask how you want your beef cooked — whether medium, medium-well, etc. — is a nice touch that sets them apart from most burger places. It’s clear they care about the quality and doneness of their meat.

The burger itself was quite large, loaded with fresh toppings and sauces. It was a bit messy to eat, with sauces dripping and toppings falling out, but that’s often the sign of a good, generously stacked burger. The beef patty had great texture and seasoning, and the bun held up decently, though it struggled slightly under the weight of everything inside.

It’s not the cleanest burger to eat, but it’s definitely one of the better ones I’ve had in Montreal.

Baby Back Ribs with Spicy Fries

Enjoyment: 5.5/10
Price Paid: $24
Benchmark Price: $24
EV Score: 5.5/10
Order Again? No.

The baby back ribs were decent but nothing particularly memorable. They weren’t the fall-off-the-bone tender style you might hope for, but they were cooked through and had good flavour. The sauce was standard — sweet and tangy — but didn’t stand out compared to other rib spots.

I ordered spicy fries on the side, but they turned out to be just regular fries sprinkled with seasoning. On the bright side, they didn’t charge extra for the “spicy” version. The fries were okay overall, but they lacked crispiness and didn’t have much kick from the spices. Next time, I’d likely skip the fries entirely and go straight for the burger or poutine.

Final Thoughts

Burger de Ville is a great casual spot in Montreal if you’re craving a classic burger done right. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is laid-back, and the ability to choose your burger’s doneness is a standout feature.

The burger is definitely the reason to come — thick, juicy, and satisfying, even if it’s a bit messy. The poutine is hearty and comforting, while the ribs and fries are decent but not the highlight.

Prices are a bit on the higher side for what you get, but the portions are generous, especially with sides like the poutine. Overall, Burger de Ville delivers a solid burger experience in a friendly, relaxed setting.
